09 Oct 11 Solar power for the Babungo Healthcare Centre in Cameroon

In June 2010, one co-worker went to Babungo, rural Cameroon, to install a stand-alone hybrid solar PV system to electrify the Babungo Integrated Healthcare Centre (BIHC). The generated electricity is used for running and lighting the BIHC hospital and for running refrigerators used for conserving vaccines. The project was a joint effort of Picosol (www.picosol.nl), the Babungo foundation (www.babungo.org) and Advisolar. The project was funded by: 1) Triodos Bank (www.triodos.com) 2) Net4kids aid foundation (www.net4kids.org) 3) Share4more, the Rabobank Group Employee Fund 4) Impulsis (www.impulsis.nl)

18 Aug 11 Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre

The Kimbriki site is located at Terrey Hills and was established back in 1974 as a landfill for a large portion of the waste generated in Northern Sydney. Back then it was jointly-owned by the four member councils of the Shore Region (Pittwater, Warringah, Manly and Mosman), and as of 2009 it is now owned by Kimbriki Environmental Enterprises. In the late 1980s, 280 000t of waste was being landfilled at Kimbriki each year, until resource recovery begun around 1990, changing that number to only 50 000t. Kimbriki has been taking in all the kerbside green-waste and clean-up material from the four councils since the services started, as well as household recycling and construction/demolition material. Since Kimbriki has been open, 1.7 million tonnes of material had been recovered through the site’s operations by 2009. This is one of the larger facilities in Sydney with green-waste processing conducted by ANL, a recyclables transfer station run by URM, a dry-waste landfill, construction waste processing, major resource recovery, second-hand material and product sales, as well as an on-site eco-garden. Hope you enjoy the drive through, please rate and comment.

Here are some more rare carts I found in Walla Walla. Basin Disposal of Walla Walla sure seems to have some of the most awesome carts I’ve ever seen! First up, we have a universal-style 96 gallon Go-Cart trash cart that I stumbled across on a residential garbage route while walking home from filming some Basin Disposal footage. After that, we have 3 carts I found behind an elementary school near my house, which I also happened to see out of the corner of my eye while walking home from filming. The first cart in the line (from left to right) is a semi-auto 96 gallon Go-Cart. Next in the line is a rather unusual old square Toter with a really weird lid. Finally, the last cart is a 1st generation semi-auto Dura-Kan like the ones in my other rare cart video. I had never seen or heard of “Go-Cart” trash carts before, and I don’t think any of you guys have either, so I hope you all enjoy this extremely rare bit of trash cart history!
